CONJUNCTIONS

വാക്കുകളെയോ വാക്യങ്ങളെയോ തമ്മില്‍ യോജിപ്പിക്കാനുപയോഗിക്കുന്ന പദമാണ് conjunction.

[A conjunction is a word which joins together words or sentences]

eg Saying and doing are two different things.

You must study well or you will fail the examination.

Conjuctions-നെ രണ്ടായി തരംതിരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്:

1. Co-ordinating Conjunctions

eg I went round the streets and found his new abode.

ഈ വാക്യത്തിലെ and ഒരു co-ordinating conjunction ആണ്.  

2. Subordinating Conjunctions

eg She told me that she would attend the meeting in time. 

ഈ വാക്യത്തിലെ that ഒരു subordinating conjunction ആണ്.

Compound sentence ഉണ്ടാക്കാന്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന conjunctions ആണ് co-ordinating conjunctions എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്.

Complex sentence ഉണ്ടാക്കാനുപയോഗിക്കുന്ന conjunctions ആണ് subordinating conjunctions.

Co-ordinating Conjuntions:

ഇനി പറയുന്നവയാണ് ഈ വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ വരുന്നത്.

for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so, still, while, nevertheless, otherwise, as well as, either ..... or, neither ...... nor, not only ...... but also, both ...... and

Subordinating Conjunctions:

ഇനി പറയുന്നവ ഈ വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ വരുന്നു.

that, if, whether, unless, when, where, why, how, since, after, before, till, until, as, as soon as, because, though, although, than,  so ...... that, no sooner ....... than, as if, as though, as far as, even if, in order that, on condition that, provided that
