ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE - 08






She made us work hard. (active)
We were  made to work hard. (passive)

Make someone do something (Active)
Be made to do something (Passive)

She let me read the letter. (active)  
I was allowed to read the letter. (passive)


The policeman saw the thief run away. (active)

The thief was seen to run away. (passive)

BY + NOUN not used in the passive in the following sentences:


The discovery surprised the researcher. (active) 
The researcher was surprised at the discovery. (passive)
The news shocked everyone. (active)
Everyone was shocked at the news. (passive)
Dust covered the furniture. (active)
The furniture was covered with dust. (passive) 
I know her. (active)
She is known to me. (passive)
The agreement satisfied the workers. (active) 
The workers were satisfied with the agreement. (passive)
Smoke filled the room. (active)
The room was filled with smoke. (passive)
The admission work engaged the Principal the whole day. (active)
The Principal was engaged in the admission work the whole day. (passive)
